Dr Seuss Day: Free PE Activities
Next Thursday (March 2) is Dr Suess Day, marking the start of Read Across America Week. This day is a great opportunity to offer your children the chance to discover new books, learn about all their favorite authors, and participate in a range of activities that promote reading and literacy. And we have some fun free PE activities to help celebrate the day. These free PE activities will be available throughout the next 7 days only (February 23 to March 2).
Theodor Suess Geisel was born in Springfield, Massachusetts. Our favorite quotation of his is… “Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened”.
We are encouraging schools to really embrace Dr Suess Day. Perhaps you can plan a ‘Cat in the Hat’ costume day, organize book swaps and writing competitions, or even arrange a visit from an author or illustrator. But don’t forget to invite PE to your book party!…
Many children find it difficult to connect in the classroom, so the combination of active play and literacy can be a perfect way to engage children into the wonderful world of reading, writing and creativity.
Just go to our ‘calendar’ page, select March and download our free Dr Suess Day games for free.
Free PE Activities
The ‘Alphabet Soup’ and ‘Book Characters’ games are great replacement warm ups for Phys Ed. Whereas the ‘Word Relay’ and ‘Build the Title’ games can be used as stand-alone fun activities, engaging children into literacy.
By promoting reading for pleasure and celebrating the fantastic Dr Suess throughout the whole of Read Across America Week, we can all play a role in nurturing a love of literature in children, which could stay with them for life. We hope you love our free Dr Suess Day activities as much as we do (we are certain that your students will!).
